The challenge

Hybrid enterprises rarely have one pipeline, one registry, or one security boundary. A policy that works in a public-cloud Kubernetes environment may never reach a self-hosted GitLab runner or a legacy release path. The result is fragmented evidence, inconsistent enforcement, and too many findings without enough context.

The control model

1. Secure ingestion

Establish dependency controls, secret detection, context-aware code scanning, and developer feedback before risky changes enter the build system.

2. Harden the build factory

Protect runner identity, isolate workloads, validate infrastructure-as-code, detect abnormal pipeline behavior, and capture verifiable build provenance.

3. Govern artifacts and delivery

Generate SBOMs, sign and attest artifacts, prioritize risk by reachability and blast radius, and enforce promotion policy consistently across environments.

Open policy, enterprise integration

We use Open Policy Agent to express portable, testable rules close to the workload. Where appropriate, we integrate enterprise-supported platforms such as Snyk and existing CI/CD, registry, cloud, and observability services. The architecture preserves local enforcement and sensitive-data boundaries while giving leadership a coherent view of risk.
